The Wood Snake

Following the success of the 2024 Wood Dragon, our submission for the 2025 Wood Snake was once again selected to stand in the Woolley street dining precinct in Dickson, ACT.

The distinctive style and the designs on the snake were inspired by the ancient Chinese folk art of paper cutting or jiǎnzhǐ. This tradition is closely tied to celebrations such as the Lunar New Year festivities.

Timber for much of this project was supplied by the ACT government street trees around Canberra and Southern NSW. The body of the snake is made up of branches from a number of sources including donations from private gardens and rural properties.
